Meredith Whitney Leaves Oppenheimer to Start Own Firm
Oppenheimer & Co. research analyst Meredith Whitney has resigned to start her own firm. She plans to open up shop in early March under the name Meredith Whitney Advisory Group.
According to reports Whitney has said she plans to provide research on financial institutions such as Morgan Stanley and Citigroup- the same firms that brought her into the spotlight during her research tenure at Oppenheimer.
At a time when talk of setting up boutique investment shops is all the rage, Whitney has said she hopes to expand her firm into investment banking and other areas moving forward.
Whitney had been an analyst with Oppenheimer since 2004, prior to that she served as Head of Financial Institutions Research at Wachovia.
