SunGard Trading and Risk Systems has partnered with Actuate, a provider of information delivery solutions, to offer Web-based reporting of risk and portfolio analyses produced by the Panorama KnowledgeFactory. With this partnership, SunGard looks to extend the reporting of its Panorama system through Actuate's e.Reporting platform to additional users within an enterprise as well as external clients of users for a more transparent view of risk.
"Firms have invested millions of dollars in risk management systems initially for satisfying internal requirements, but now they see an opportunity to increase the transparency across the organization as well as with their customers," explains Luca Giachino, vice president and product manager of KnowledgeFactory. He adds that firms aren't looking to replace an entire infrastructure and instead are looking to build on top of what is already in place.
KnowledgeFactory lets them accomplish this as a Web-based data analysis and reporting component embedded within the Panorama system. "The direction behind this was very much based on a strong perception of client needs," he says.
KnowledgeFactory consolidates information from Panorama and other systems for calculation and analysis. The Actuate e.Reporting addition is embedded within the Panorama KnowledgeFactory for Web-based reporting of those calculations and analyses. "Risk and trading systems are very complex in their nature and some people in the organization don't need to be users of the whole system but they need to be able to get report access," says Giachino. In addition, he says the Actuate reporting element allows those users to not only view reports, but also to access them, change assumptions and recalculate in order to get customized reports that fit their needs.
The Actuate reporting technology supports multiple out-put formats to deliver content to users through a browser, to a printer or to other applications. SunGard chose to incorporate the Actuate solution because of the range of reports that are available, from very simple to very complex, as well as the scalability and the security offered through the product. The Actuate component is currently implemented and being tested at a beta site and SunGard expects the functionality to be made readily available to Panorama KnowledgeFactory clients at the end of this year, or early next year.
