Savvis Expands Global Connectivity Offerings

Savvis announced several new connectivity options with major exchanges, ECNs and liquidity venues in the U.S., Europe and Asia, as well as three newly segmented levels of low latency exchange feed connectivity offerings.

“We’ve been working to connect to many different exchanges and we’re segmenting our product sets based on customer latency requirements,” says Roji Oommen, Director of Business Development at Savvis.

The first level, Savvis Community of Interest Network (COIN), provides low latency exchange connectivity through Savvis’ private managed global network.

The Savvis Exchange Express (SEE) offering is a lower latency exchange connectivity option through Savvis’ private managed global network with direct connections to each exchange through Metro Ethernet.

The third level, Savvis Proximity Hosting (SPH) is the lowest latency offering with connectivity between exchanges and customers’ automated trading systems through collocation of both infrastructures in a Savvis data center.

“In the current economic environment, customers are being pushed to cut costs,” says Oommen. “The ability to provide low latency connectivity to a broad swath of international clients makes data centers pretty attractive. The IT infrastructure as a service model propositions grows stronger as the economy worsens.”

As for new connectivity in the U.S., Savvis has connected to BATS Exchange, which added a new disaster recovery location, for Savvis Exchange Express and Savvis COIN; the CME Group’s FIX Adapted for Streaming (FAST) protocol on Savvis COIN; new connections to the NYMEX and the Kansas City Board of Trade; both of Direct Edge’s platforms – EDGX and EDGA can be accessed in the New York metro area through Savvis Exchange Express and Savvis Coin.

Nasdaq OMX is also now available through Savvis Exchange Express and Nasdaq Global Index Services will soon be available through Savvis Exchange Express from a Savvis data center in the New York metro area.

In Europe Savvis announced connections to BATS Europe, now available via Savvis COIN, Chi-X Europe will be available soon in the London metro area through Savvis Exchange Express and globally through Savvis COIN, the LSE Performance Channels is available in London through Savvis Exchange Express and globally through Savvis COIN, and Nasdaq’s new MTF will soon be available in London through Savvis Exchange Express and globally through Savvis COIN.

“We believe that the European market will evolved similar to the way the U.S. did so we’re going after the main liquidity providers,” explains Oommen. “Most of our customers say they want to connect to everyone and see how the market shakes out. The key now is that for financial institutions to connect to every provider available. And from the MTF provider perspective, they want to connect and gain as much market share as possible.”

Savvis has also made moves into Asia with the Singapore Exchange, which already provides access through Savvis Proximity Hosting, to now be available in Singapore through Savvis Exchange Express.

“There is quite a bit of interest in Asia, particularly as markets slow in the U.S. and Europe so we’ll continue that expansion going forward,” Oommen adds.
