New Global Tech Hubs Emerge In Surprising Locations

A number of cities around the world that were formally quiet on the tech front are now making a stand.

In the meantime, Amsterdam is garnering a reputation as an “App” center. The Dutch city is home to Tapulous, the maker of "Tap Tap Revenge," bought by Disney in 2010, as well as two startup accelerator programs.

For those looking to attend a tech conference outside the U.S, Dublin, Ireland, is one of the hot places. While many global tech companies such as Google and LinkedIn already have their European headquarters there where they can benefit from lower taxes and top local tech talent, the Irish city also hosts two big tech conferences — the Dublin Web Summit and F.ounders, which are attracting more start-ups to the country.

For those looking to set up shop closer to home, Austin, Texas has also emerged as a new tech hub. Companies like Apple , Samsung and Google all have operations there. The city is fast gaining a strong reputation for videogame development, e-commerce and software-as-a-service firms.
