Cisco, Savvis Partner to Support Private Clouds

Savvis to use Cisco's all-in-one server/network/storage device in its data centers.

Savvis and Cisco today announced a joint effort to support hosted private clouds for large companies such as the major Wall Street firms.

Savvis will use Cisco's Unified Computing System — the all-in-one appliance Cisco announced in March that includes Cisco's server blades, network equipment, storage and management software — at its data centers for those who to run a private cloud in a vendor's facility. (It calls this service Infrastructure As A Service.)

Savvis is also using a number of other Cisco products in its 28 data centers, including the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series, Cisco ACE blade and Firewall Services Module to deliver virtualized network infrastructure for its hosted area network architecture; Cisco Nexus 5000 and 7000 Series switches and the Cisco Nexus 1000V Switch with VN-Link technology to link virtual machines and networks.
