Wall Street Journal Becomes iPhone Friendly

The once paid-subscription-only paper now lets iPhone users read selected articles in an iPhone-friendly browser.

iPhone holdouts, take note: even the very traditional Wall Street Journal has rolled out a free iPhone application that can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store. The paper says it's posting the "top articles from WSJ.com" in the iPhone application, which requires iPhone OS 2.1 to run.

In addition to displaying selected articles from its web site, the Wall Street Journal's iPhone reader offers the opportunity to email articles from the device and to listen to WSJ Radio, which offers two-to-three-minute news updates twice hourly during business hours.

For those already accessing the Wall Street Journal's online content on a smart phone, even an iPhone, this is not a huge new development. But it's an indicator of the iPhone's sweeping and seemingly unstoppable popularity.
