WallachBeth Hires CTO to Boost Broker's Quantatitve Skill Set

To navigate increasingly complex markets, WallachBeth Capital hired quant trading veteran Matthew Rowley as CTO, who previously worked at Credit Agricole Cheuvreux and financial software provider Fidessa.

WallechBeth Capital has appointed quantitative trading veteran Matthew Rowley to the newly created role of chief technology officer at the institutional brokerage firm.

With close to 20 years of experience in the financial industry, Rowley most recently served as Head of Alternative Execution at Credit Agricole Cheuvreux, where he was instrumental in helping the firm attain a leadership position in the global electronic brokerage space, according to the release.

"As our business model continues to evolve and expand, we are determined to stay at the forefront of the industry by providing our clients and our execution groups with the most advanced and innovative technology-based solutions," commented David Beth, president and COO of WallachBeth, in the announcement.

Operating on an agency basis, WallachBeth's expertise includes ETF and equity trading, derivatives, fixed income, closed-end funds, and healthcare research.

"Matt is uniquely qualified to help us deliver customized solutions that address specific and often complex order execution and related business process needs," added Beth.

Rowley is responsible for overseeing internally developed software, third-party vendor integration and counseling client on their algorithmic executions as well as customized requests related to the firm's electronic trade execution desk and DMA offerings. In terms of the internal software, he will further increase the efficiency of execution desk workflow with a focus on tools used for complex order management, such as ETF basket execution, facilitating clients’ portfolio trading requirements, and continually fine-tuning and enhancing software focused on pre-and post-trade cost analysis," according to  Beth in a follow-up email.

Tapping into his quant background, Rowley is equally-focused on introducing new “predicative-modeling” applications — a.k.a. ‘recommendation engines’— that clients can leverage in the course of execution strategy implementation. "This is an area of science that Matt has focused on—and successfully introduced solutions for during much of his career," wrote Beth in the email.

During the course of his career, Rowley held senior executive roles at several of the financial services industry's leading firms. Prior to Cheuvreux, he was global head of advanced trading products at Fidessa, the financial software trading vendor.  He began his career as a quantitative analyst in the Strategic Risk Management Advisory group at First Chicago Corp. Rowley holds an advanced degree in applied statistics form Oxford University and First Class Honors degree in mathematics.
