Branching Out; Ringing in the New Year
Branching Out
Whenever I think of WS&T (print & online) the first thing that comes to my mind is that it is an STP resource center. I got hooked on it based on my STP interests. Based on recent events in the STP space, like GSTPA's demise and postponing the T+1 mandate, my general STP interests have started turning cold along with the industry's. There could be two opinions about it. The economy is going down and technology budgets are being slashed or organizations have different perspectives in 2003 and beyond.
Based on all this, I am getting diverted to new areas of interests, which are all centered around reducing IT costs and making IT a commodity. Financial outsourcing (what? how? when?) and the use of opensource technologies (Linux o/s, JBoss App Servers, App Dev Frameworks) are my new-found interests.
I hope my other fellow IT architects and Sr. IT managers are developing similar interests. WS&T may increasingly look at extending their coverage of these new focus topics.
The new focus on STP in the bond market is well appreciated (December issue). WS&T's right balance of technology and business is also well received.

Ringing in the New Year
I would like to compliment the Wall Street & Technology staff on the high quality of its research and reporting in the January issue featuring "Technology Landscape 2003." Every story is excellent and affords me the timely information I require as part of my industry research. I have shared several stories with clients interested in capitalizing on new opportunities for IT in the financial-services marketplace.
