PowellJohnson Private Asset Management agrees to select Advisorport to provide the firm with advisory tools; Reuters and Barra announce a partnership to assist investment managers in managing risk in their portfolios using the same module that they would watch the market from; Singer & Friedlander Investment Management's London, Leeds and Birmingham offices subscribes to Knowledge Technology Solution's QuoteTerminal.

PowellJohnson Private Asset Management, a Nashville-based broker/dealer focused on high-net worth clients, recently agreed to select Advisorport to provide the firm with advisory tools. The solution will assist PowellJohnson's advisors in client profiling, investment-proposal generation, money-manager and mutual-fund selection, portfolio monitoring and reporting. PowellJohnson provides investment solutions to clients including individuals, families, foundations, endowments, retirement plans and profit-sharing plans.

Reuters and Barra recently announced a partnership to assist investment managers in managing risk in their portfolios using the same module that they would watch the market from. "We want to make sure that fund managers don't see risk as afterthought but something that is really integrated into what fund managers do every day," says Jane Platt, president of Services for Asset Managers for Reuters. Mike Bishop, vice president of equity portfolio management and quantitative research for Barra, agrees. "Risk awareness is moving away from the back office and put into hands of investment manager," he says. BarraOne will be integrated into Reuters 300 Xtra and Reuters BridgeStation. The solution will be available in the coming months for institutional and private wealth managers.

Singer & Friedlander Investment Management's London, Leeds and Birmingham offices recently subscribed to Knowledge Technology Solution's QuoteTerminal. The service is an Internet-based market-data system offering access to news, data and analysis from sources including Interactive Data Corporation, Dow Jones Newswires, RNS and AFX news.

Top Quotes of the Week
It wasn't all bad luck for the capital markets this week: Hedge funds had a decent first quarter despite a slowdown in jobs numbers, BlackRock might be heading into new territory as hedge fund managers take a hard look at their counterparties, and the head of the IMF didn't pull any punches when assessing today's global economy. At least we can admire the nice weather and some of the best quotes of the week.
