DR Capacity Harvesting Strategy

Date: October 2008
Type: White Paper
Rating: (4)

Overview: Every day IT is being challenged to do more with less. IT needs to eliminate waste wherever it is identified so precious resources can be invested into developing revenue streams and not merely supporting standard operations. To accomplish this, every ounce of compute power needs to be wrung from existing infrastructure. The largest area of untapped potential remains off limits for exploitation; the resources set aside for Disaster Recover (DR). Entire datacenters filled with equipment, with the sole purpose of business continuity, sit idle. To make matters worse, datacenters are challenged by the space, cooling, and power demands created by server sprawl. The worst contributor to this server sprawl is the deployment of DR capacity. Firms must begin to responsibly harvest these resources to help the business make the best use of scarce capital by circumventing this IT waste.
