Source: Microsoft
Date: July 2008
Type: Research/Analyst Report
Rating: (0)

Overview: Today’s market conditions are requiring a more aggressive approach to the use of HPC throughout the Capital Markets Value Chain. And that is where Microsoft comes in. Its huge investments in high-performance computing have increasingly been catching the attention of Wall Street –- it has shown it can achieve top-level performance in HPC while providing a familiar, Windowsbased environment. Its first public beta of Windows HPC Server 2008 came out last November allowing customers to achieve the levels of scalability and performance of the most efficient clusters in the Top 500 benchmark, while making it dramatically more productive to deploy, utilize and integrate the advanced HPC clusters within their environment. Windows HPC Server 2008, the successor to Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003, is based on the Windows Server 2008 operating system and is designed to increase productivity, scalability and manageability. Advanced failover features improve reliability and up-time, while a service-oriented architecture (SOA) job scheduler make using Windows HPC Server 2008 easier.
