London Traders Using New Wireless Option for Liffe Connect
London-based Communicating Limited has developed a wireless trading system to access Liffe Connect, the electronic futures trading platform on the London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange. The Communicating front-end software is a fully interactive trading system operating on Windows CE mobile devices. The application can utilize straight Internet, wireless Internet or mobile digital cellular networks for the trading of futures on the Liffe exchange. Users can place and amend orders, access portfolios and perform all other operations available through desktop applications.
Currently, the Communicating wireless system is used by at least two independent trading houses at Liffe: Nick England Trading Limited and Pinner House. Nick England, Director of Nick England Trading Limited, uses the application on an HP Jornada CE device in support of three traders. England uses the Jornada, which has a miniature keyboard and screen, to access his computer on the floor. He is able to route orders through the computer to the Liffe Connect platform.
"Communicating is the only device that has the size advantage, it can fit into your pocket, and offers two-way technology to receive and transmit data," says England. He adds that the Palm Pilot applications he has explored dont have enough power and support fairly limited applications, whereas the Jornada batteries last all day and support fully interactive applications.
