IP Trade (booth #2215), a global player offering an IP-based trading communications platform, unveiled its next-generation IP turret interface software at the SIFMA Technology Management Conference & Exhibit. IP Trade says Release 2 of the IP Trade turret interface software is the first turret truly conceived for the IP world — previously, only turrets using proprietary time-division multiplexed (TDM) voice switches had been available from legacy providers, according to the Angleur, Belgium-based vendor.

The IP Trade technology is powered by prevalent IP-PBX (private branch exchange) providers — including Cisco, Alcatel (booth #3508) and Avaya — and integrates easily into that environment, enabling traders' technology choices to be driven by business needs rather than integration or implementation issues, the company says.

Release 2 of the IP Trade turret interface incorporates a number of significant innovations in the areas of disaster recovery, user productivity and collaboration, according to Neil Isaacson, head of products at IP Trade, including full support for Cisco Survivable Remote Site Telephony (SRST). SRST provides continuity for turret users at remote sites in the event that a connection to the Cisco CallManager is lost — for example, when the network goes down, Isaacson explains.

The use of Cisco SRST in conjunction with IP Trade ensures that traders at sites where there is no Cisco CallManager still can dial out and access private wires from their turrets, with calls automatically redirected via local public switched telephone network (PSTN) lines, Isaacson adds. He contends that this approach is more cost-effective than that of the legacy turret suppliers, which require a local switch to be installed at each remote site to offer the same capabilities.

The solution's IP Trade Connect module also enables turret users in a disaster recovery scenario — or non-turret users (in the back or middle office, for example) — to access and share private wire connections on the trading floor using a standard IP phone or mobile device, Isaacson says, adding that IP Trade provides these users with support for up to two phone devices, including a Skype client. This means that users can listen to one line while using the other line to participate in another private wire call. "The Skype client is unique," says Isaacson. "No one else seems to be using it as an active voice channel."
