The Federal Bureau of Prisons told the New York Times DealBook that convicted fraudster Bernard Madoff doesn't have cancer and is not dying from the disease, according to the blog. This contradicts a story in The New York Post on Monday, reporting that Madoff was dying of pancreatic cancer and taking 20 pills a day. The Post story cited unnamed sources and unnamed inmates.
The Post speculated that Madoff took the fall for masterminding the fraud because he didn't have much time to live.
A spokeswoman for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, released the following statement to DealBook. "While the N.Y. Post story is full of inaccuracies, and we can't specifically address all of them, we can tell you that Bernie Madoff is not terminally ill, and has not been diagnosed with cancer."
Wall Street & Technology's blog said it was hard to know what was fact or fiction in this story.
