Interaction with mobile and applications has changed dramatically since the early days of Blackberry, and we expect companies know better than to hand their next-generation tech-savvy employees outdated devices.

If Bring Your Own Device initiatives are to be successfully integrated into corporate culture a firm needs to provide the tools to make them most productive.

Most likely that's a tool the employee already uses, prompting expectations that fewer enterprises will offer direct subsidies for personal devices.

Yet wouldn't it be awesome if UBM just gave us a budget and said buy whatever you want for work? You would probably spend a quarter of what I do, though, haha.

I used to have a BlackBerry, they are great, and I truly mean that.

I agree. Having only ever head apple smartphones If someone handed me a Blackberry or Samsung right now it would take me days, possibly weeks, to really adjust.

I think there are a lot of employees out there who are so used to their personal devices that it would affect their productivity anyway if you made them use a different one.

Tech support seems to me to be the biggest barrier. IT departments probably don't want to be managing a multitude of employee devices, I'm sure it would make their life easier if all were using the same company-issued device. But, as you note, the employee has the expectation he or she will be able to use the device of their choice.
