What trends are you seeing in adoption of the Thomson Reuters Elektron environment for 2012?
The importance of managed service models has grown in recent years. Since the financial crisis of 2008, many firms have placed emphasis on cost efficiency as trading volumes and margins have been under pressure. As a result, impact of the build-versus-buy debate has begun to take effect and more firms are looking to outsource infrastructure that does not offer significant competitive differentiation but is a key part of their operations as a means of improving efficiency. Customers are turning to Elektron as a way to do this.
What trends are you predicting for capital markets firms and asset managers/hedge funds in 2012 in terms of cloud adoption?
Breaking new markets and growing new business is a major priority for firms in 2012. As the focus moves from developed to emerging markets, gaining access to these geographies is increasingly important. Cloud adoption gives firms the ability to achieve a local presence. For firms that don’t have the time or resources to set up their own local IT operations, cloud adoption provides local trading and data infrastructure for low latency connection to these key markets. The benefits of faster time to market, shifting investment profiles from up-front capex to service subscription models, and reducing the need for technical expertise to integrate and manage content and applications will become increasingly tangible.
