Monte Carlo Hits Top Speed; Customized Reporting Made Easy; Teaming Up for Data Auditing

Monte Carlo Hits Top Speed

Decisioneering is shifting Monte Carlo simulation into high gear with the latest release of its Crystal Ball risk analysis software, which facilitates simulations in Microsoft Excel. The Crystal Ball 7.1 Professional and Premium Editions now offer an Extreme speed feature that allows users to run simulations up to 100 times faster than previous versions of the software, the vendor says.

Powered by technology licensed from Frontline Systems, simulations that once took hours to complete now can be accomplished in a fraction of a second. "In finance, you constantly have to analyze the uncertainty of the future," notes Daniel Fylstra, CEO of Incline Village, Nev.-based Frontline Systems. "The whole goal of Monte Carlo simulation products is to enable people to build models ... and try thousands and tens of thousands of 'what if' scenarios very fast." Crystal Ball 7.1 also includes a Normal speed option and a Demo speed mode, which runs simulations in slow-motion.

"With increased speed, users can run more simulations ... increasing the accuracy of their results," points out Jim Franklin, CEO of Denver-based Decisioneering.
