Thomson Reuters Hires Robert Hegarty

Hegarty left DTCC to take a new position as TR's global head of market structure and to oversee Elektron, the firm's financial markets ecosystem.

Thomson Reuters Hegarty, who is a thought leader and authority on technology in technology and its impact on financial services, joins Thomson Reuters from Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation (where he was in charge of DTCC’s strategy, planning and marketing capabilities.

Hegarty is best known from his tenure at Tower Group where he was managing director of Securities & Investments and Insurance. Hegarty headed the team providing research and advisory services to C-level executives in the global financial markets industry.

In his new position, Hegarty will oversee the expansion of Elektron, the firm’s financial markets ecosystem that delivers content and services worldwide. He will cultivate partnerships with market participants to accelerate the growth and value-add for community members. He will report to David Kelly, Chief Technology Officer, Enterprise, Thomson Reuters.

“To work effectively, market participants require secure connectivity to communicate with one another and easily tap into a supply of global financial data, analytics, and research to develop new business models,” commented Kelly in the release. “Rob’s understanding of the global financial markets and rapidly changing regulatory environment will further bolster the growth of Elektron, which provides our customers the fastest time to market and immediate scale," added Kelly in the release.

Over the course of his 25-years of experience, Hegarty previously held senior positions with Putnam Investments and Fidelity Investments in Boston. His professional experience also includes work at Drexel Burnham Lambert in New York and Coopers & Lybrand in Boston. In a press statement, Hegarty expressed his enthusiasm for the new role. “I am thrilled to join Thomson Reuters during this time of change for the industry and opportunity for the company.
