9:10am-9:45amThe Data Manager's Changing Role
In the past the data manager was only worried about data affecting the trade post execution. Now, with numerous issues related to market data arising-the importance of clean data for algorithmic trading, data latency and new rules based on Reg NMS -the data managers role is changing. Additional issues including operational efficiency and minimizing operational risk by ensuring the flow of data to mission critical systems are also a new focus. To obtain a truly holistic view of the firm's data, he or she must now understand many issues that were once left to the front office. As the markets are evolving, the data manager's role is being elevated and broadening in scope.
Moderator: Tom Jordan, Chairman of consulting firm Jordan & Jordan
Panelists: Paul Yaron Managing Director and Principal, Bear Stearns

9:45am-10:45amDare to Share-Spotlight on Managed Services
Reference data management has matured to the point that several consulting firms are offering an outsourced model. One of the options is a shared service owned, operated and used by the industry. The other is a more traditional outsourcing model. This session will uncover what the options are to figure out which may be right for your firm.
Moderator: Tim Lind, Senior Analyst, TowerGroup
Speaker:
10:45am-11:00am Coffee Break
11:00am-12:00pmImproving Data Quality, Reducing Data Latency, and Prepping for Algo Trading
Several trends in the front office are having a tremendous effect on the data manager. Algorithmic trading is hotter than ever but the very best algorithm is useless if the data being plugged into it, is inaccurate. In addition, as firms build direct pipes to the exchanges to reduce data latency, the data manager must play a larger role in improving data quality quickly before the traders get their hands on it.
Moderator: Ivy Schmerken, Editor-at-Large, Wall Street & Technology
Panelists: Paul Famighetti, Director of Automated Trading, at Trillium Trading
Robert Flatley, Managing Director, Electronic Trading Services at Banc of America of Securities
Jenny Drake, Managing Director, Corporate Client Group, Archipelago

1:30pm-2:30pmKnow Your Customer: Compliance and Legal Entity Data
One of the most confusing aspects of settling a trade is sorting through the corporate structure of your counter-party. These entities have many subsidiaries and go by multiple names. In order to settle a trade accurately, the details of the counter-party must be known. Furthermore, as part of the Patriot Act, it is mandated that you know your customer. This panel will discuss how some financial-services executives are dealing with legal entity challenges.
Moderator: Tom Redman, President of Navesink Consulting Group
Speaker: David Paris, Global Head of Information Services, Deutsche Bank
Terry Ransford, Director of Trading and Technology for Northern Trust Securities
2:30pm-3:30pmReference Data Governance
Reference data is at the top of the list when it comes to the data manager's priorities. However, without a proper governance strategy in place, clean data and well intended processes can quickly go south. Many firms are embarking on a new strategy and it's being governed from the top either by a newly appointed Data Czar or Chief Data Officer.
Speakers: John Bottega, Director Global Head of Product & Price Reference Data, CSFB
Margret Hibschman, formerly global head of market data, Barclay's Global Investors
John White, Principal, Investment Management Data Services, State Street Global Advisors
Moderator: Mike Atkin, Managing Director, Financial Data Coalition LTD
3:30pm-4:15pmIntegration
After having focused on data management for several years, institutions are shifting their focus from acquiring and storing data to delivering it to the internal end user. This can't be done unless systems throughout the firm are integrated and proper delivery channels are in place. Integrating databases and creating the proper delivery channels is a major focal point today and can determine whether a firm's data management strategy is a success or failure.
