Merrill Lynch (New York) unveiled a new fixed-income analytics and data tool, MLXport, which currently is available to select institutional clients as a download. The Microsoft Excel add-on allows users to access real-time data, analytics and calculations across debt, equity, foreign exchange and derivatives markets, says the company. Users can view corporate and historical data for securities in addition to NASD Trade Reporting and Compliance Engine (TRACE) data.
By providing TRACE support along with real-time data, MLXport creates transparency in an exchangeless market, says Emily Louie, product manager for MLXport. MLXport gathers data through a window into the Merrill Lynch server, but investors can integrate third-party data, she adds. Users can view a live yield curve directly from the Merrill Lynch trading desk in addition to accessing the firm's proprietary calculators to analyze data, Louie continues.
According to Tomotaro Kodama, head of fixed-income margin and risk at Merrill Lynch, the strength of MLXport is that it allows users to create fixed-income tools that are as customizable as any other Excel spreadsheet. "If you try to have one interface for everyone, it's going to fit everyone a little bit, but not be exactly what they want," he says.
