2002: Former currency trader John Rusnack pleads guilty to hiding $691 million in losses while at Allfirst Bank of Baltimore.

1995: Nick Leeson, a trader at Barings Bank in Singapore, runs up losses of $1.38 billion on unauthorized trading in derivatives, causing the bank to collapse. The company had been in business for more than 230 years.

1991: Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI), which operates in nearly 70 countries, is seized by bank regulators following reports of huge losses from illegal loans to corporate insiders and from trading transactions. Claims exceed $10 billion.
