Goldman VP Joins Business Technology Partners

Michael Reilly has joined Business Technology Partners as project manager.

Michael Reilly, formerly vice president of enterprise technology for Goldman, Sachs and Company, has joined Business Technology Partners as project manager. Business Technology Partners is a technology-consulting firm located in New York City.

The first project he will manage is the relocation of personnel and the consolidation of data centers and product-development laboratories at Reuters' Hauppauge, N.Y. facilities, says his manager Jacob Cane, principal. Reuters has a multi-business campus there where they are consolidating two buildings into one, says Cane.

While they are at it, they plan to upgrade systems and improve facilities. The campus houses many data centers and technology labs where Reuters does a mixture of development, client support and demoes.

Reilly left Goldman in October after 3,000 people were laid off - many in technology, he notes. In the three years that he was there, Reilly was a critical member of the information-technology leadership. He helped to complete the integration of 700 equity traders and managed the design and implementation of all computer-desktop devices, IPC turrets, voice recording, hoot-n-holler systems and video on Goldman's trading floors in New York and New Jersey. Previous to Goldman, he spent time at JPMorgan and Smith Barney Shearson.

When asked why the move to the consulting side, Reilly says, "That seems to be the way technology is moving - more outsourcing by firms, not only on the financial-services side. Technology is looked at as overhead and financial-services firms are concentrating on their core competencies, while outsourcing to the experts. Also, technology is changing so rapidly, it is difficult to staff a tech group that can keep up with rapid changes in infrastructure and equipment."
