Discover Goes Wireless

Discover Brokerage, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter’s online discount brokerage arm, recently teamed up with Owings Mills, Md.-based Aether Technologies to launch TradeRunner.

Discover Brokerage, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter’s online discount brokerage arm, recently teamed up with Owings Mills, Md.-based Aether Technologies to launch TradeRunner–a wireless trading application targeted at individual investors. TradeRunner, which in August was made available to Discover’s full stable of roughly 160,000 retail clients, is being targeted at mobile investors who need an ergonomic real-time trading and portfolio management tool.

Currently, TradeRunner runs on a pair of hardware platforms: 3Com’s Palm III and IIIX Palm Pilots.

Via TradeRunner, investors can trade equities, mutual funds and options, access real-time quotes and receive real-time business news.

News about Discover’s wireless offering broke one week after Dreyfus Brokerage Services unveiled that it had selected w-Trade Technologies’ wireless trading system. Through w-Trade’s system–which runs on a variety of handheld devices–the Beverly Hills, Calif.-based Dreyfus is offering wireless trading to its full complement of clients. That group, consisting mostly of retail investors, can trade via a wireless device at the same price per trade as Dreyfus’ Internet trading service.
