Discover Goes Wireless
Discover Brokerage, Morgan Stanley Dean Witters online discount brokerage arm, recently teamed up with Owings Mills, Md.-based Aether Technologies to launch TradeRunnera wireless trading application targeted at individual investors. TradeRunner, which in August was made available to Discovers full stable of roughly 160,000 retail clients, is being targeted at mobile investors who need an ergonomic real-time trading and portfolio management tool.
Currently, TradeRunner runs on a pair of hardware platforms: 3Coms Palm III and IIIX Palm Pilots.
Via TradeRunner, investors can trade equities, mutual funds and options, access real-time quotes and receive real-time business news.
News about Discovers wireless offering broke one week after Dreyfus Brokerage Services unveiled that it had selected w-Trade Technologies wireless trading system. Through w-Trades systemwhich runs on a variety of handheld devicesthe Beverly Hills, Calif.-based Dreyfus is offering wireless trading to its full complement of clients. That group, consisting mostly of retail investors, can trade via a wireless device at the same price per trade as Dreyfus Internet trading service.
