Goldman Sachs' hedge fund industry chief C. Howard Wietschner is retiring, Bloomberg New reported, citing an internal memo it obtained from the firm.

Wietschner was co-head of the firm's convertibles desk and ran its relative value sales and trading unit back in 2000. Seven years later he helped put together Goldman Sachs' hedge fund industry group, which provides advisory services for alternative asset managers.

The memo also noted that Wietschner joined Goldman Sachs' convertible sales group in 1994 after working three years at the law firm Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP, the news agency added.
