Before co-founding Imagine in 1993, he began his business career in 1986 as a Salomon Brothers vice president, gaining diverse business experience in mathematical modeling, proprietary trading strategies, structured products, and risk management methodologies. Dr. Smith holds a PhD in mathematics from Duke University, was awarded a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, and is a former assistant professor of mathematics at Columbia University.
