Investment-Technology Newsflashes

MFS selects CameronFIX for fixed income; SunGard releases new research platform; UK investment management opts for FMC solutions.

MFS Investment Management has implemented the CameronFIX engine from New York City-based Cameron Systems. The vendor's flagship product will enable the MFS to implement the Financial Information eXchange (FIX) protocol to support its fixed-income-trading operations.

The firm can use the engine to support all FIX versions and all fixed-income message types, such as offerings, quotes, new orders, executions, allocation instructions and booking reports.

In a statement, Steve Donovan, director of investment technology at the firm, said MFS was looking for automation and efficiency from the engine, while also needing it to integrate into its existing trading system and talk to counterparties.

SunGard Market Data Services has released PowerData Research Platform, to allow firms to aggregate and distribute independent, broker-produced, and third-party research. The content of the platform can process information from sources such as First Call and Zacks, as well as proprietary research of the client. In addition, it can accommodate for a range of industry formats, including XML, Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF files.

The research resides in a database, categorized in multiple ways in order for the user to conduct searches, and is delivered through a Web-based front-end. The user can also get alerts for notification of new research. The solution is available in-house or as an application-service-provider basis.

Insight Investment Management, an institutional and retail asset manager based in London, has chosen FMCSylvan for its performance measurement and attribution operations. The solution, from Financial Models Company, a Toronto-based investment-management vendor, also will enable Insight to do Web-based reporting to generate performance reports and online analysis.

In addition to the performance-measurement and attribution module, Insight will also implement the Stock Level Attribution and Fixed Income Attribution modules.

Top Quotes of the Week
It wasn't all bad luck for the capital markets this week: Hedge funds had a decent first quarter despite a slowdown in jobs numbers, BlackRock might be heading into new territory as hedge fund managers take a hard look at their counterparties, and the head of the IMF didn't pull any punches when assessing today's global economy. At least we can admire the nice weather and some of the best quotes of the week.
